Pierce The Veil - meeting one of my favorite bands for free (Novemer 13th 2016, Hamburg)

Pierce The Veil is the name of a in 2006 formed Post-Hardcore Band, from San Diego. The band consists of the four members Vic Fuentes (vocals, guitar), his brother Mike Fuentes (drums), Jaime Preciado (bass) and Tony Perry (lead guitar). Until this day Pierce The Veil (also known as PTV) have released four official studio albums. The Band is also part of several organizations which go against bullying and try to prevent suicide, as well as they form part of PETA which goes against animal cruelty.

I first discovered Pierce The Veil in early 2013 and ever since did not stop listening to them. They have somehow always played a part in my music library, even though I didn't use to listen to rock music, as much as I do now, back then. Nevertheless I always missed them on Tour, due to factors like my exchange year, so I was more than happy, when I found out, that they would come back to Germany in November 2016. Tickets were not as cheap as I thought they would be, so I couldn't afford them, so shortly after my The NBHD Tour and Twenty One Pilots concerts.

A few days before the concert a contest was posted into the event, where you could win a Meet and Greet with the Band and a ticket to the concert for yourself and one other person. I took my chance and immediately took part, even though I wasitting in my doctors watiting room as I had still been sick from the concert of Twenty One Pilots two days before. The concert waset two days later, on the 13th of November and even though I knew I would still be sick then, I couldn't resist.

Around 5pm the same day I got the message that they chose me for the Meet and Greet and that I could take a friend with me. I freaked out and panicked at the same time. What would I wear? What would I say? Would I even be able to talk? I had never really won something before and now I won a Meet and Greet and a concert of one of my favorite Bands.

November 13th 2016 - The day of the concert

I woke up around 11am, it was a Sundayso I was able to sleep in. I still hadn't found someone to take with me to the Meet and Greet, asome of my friends went to another concert and others did not know PTV that well. After a few hours I found out that a girl I met at Twenty One Pilots in Hamburg was also going and had already been waiting at the venue since early in the morning, so I messaged her and made her day.

The Meet and Greet wasupposed to start around 5pm, so I left the house around an hour earlier and reached the venue (Gruenspan) around 4:30pm. I met my friends and found out that more people from Twenty One Pilots in Hamburg were going to the concert, what calmed me down, since now I knew I wouldn't be alone there.

The doors for the VIP opened at around 5:15pm and suddenly I couldn't believe what was about to happen. I went inside and a guy from the Crew told the Security that I won the Meet and Greet and that I could take someone in, since they couldn't find my name on the guest list. I took my friend in and we got up the stairs, in front of where the meeting would take place.

small room/cabin had been built up in the middle of the big room, so everyone had their privacy while meeting the Band. I really liked that, because at other Meet and Greets you usually meet the artists while everyone else can watch you, what makes me feel really uncomfortable.

I was the first one of my friends who was gonna go in. My heart started racing when I went up to the black curtain. I opened and was blinded by the light, as Jaime, who wastanding right next to me, greeted me and asked me how I was. I said that I was fine, just a little bit sick and asked them how they were, while hugging them all. They all said that they were fine and told me to get better and sweat it all out at the concert later. I told them that I was definitely planning on doing that. We then went over to taking my photo. I realized there was a fifth guy in the room, who was there to take the photos, so I gave my phone to him. After we were done taking the photo the Band told me to enjoy the show and I thanked them and told them about how I won the tickets and the Meet and Greet and that otherwise I wouldn't have been able to afford the ticket, but that I had been wanting to see them for years already. They all congratulated me and said that I should enjoy the show even more then and sweat my illness out even more. I thanked them again, died a little bit inside and then left. When I got out I had to go around the room to pick up a poster and a set of guitar picks, before going back down the stairs and in line for the concert.

My friends all came down in shock and no one could believe what had just happened. It took about 15 - 20 more minutes until everyone was done and they let us in. They opened the door and we all got into the front row, before they opened the doors for everyone else who wastill waiting outside. It didn't take long for the small venue to fill up and the concert was gonna start soon. After so many big concerts I was happy to be back in a small venue that doesn't take up to two hours to fill.

Pierce The Veil were on Tour with two support acts: Creeper and Letlive. I had only heard of Creeper before as its the favorite band of a friend of mine.

Creeper are an English punk rock band, formed in 2014. I didn't know any of their songs but their show was really good and they seemed to enjoy their time on the stage as much as possible, what made the crowd really get into it to and dance as if it was only the concert of Creeper.

Letlive performed right after Creeper. Letlive is an American Post Hardcore Band formed in 2002. The lead singer of the band, Jason Butler, had his own way of performing and throwing the microphone around, jumping into the crowd, spitting water on the crowd and climbing upstairs was part of it. A lot people in the front row seemed kinda creeped out, as most of them were young girls, but I must say that I enjoyed it. I had never seen that before and that made the performance unique and unforgettable in my eyes. But I was just waiting for Pierce The Veil to come up the stage.

After the perfomance of Letlive was over the crews came to change the setting of the stage so Pierce The Veil could perform. My excitement kept rising.

The lights went out and the four guys of PTV came on stage and immediately started playing their song Dive In from their latest album Misadventures and the crowd started singing and partying along. I was happy to be in the front row, so I could enjoy the whole show and not get moshed 24/7 so I would miss the show.

The guys were giving all their energy into the show and especially Jaime enjoyed his time with a constant smile on his face.

The fifth song they played was Bulletproof Love which is known for Vic picking out a girl in the crowd and serenade her on stage for a few seconds. One of my friends made a sign that she wanted to be the Bulletoproof Love Girl, as PTV is one of her absolute favorite bands who mean the world to her. Vic looked at her and then pretended like he kept looking, while the whole front row was pointing at her until he told the security to get her up the stage.

They took her up and she sat down on the chair on stage before Vic knelt down in front of her and began serenading her, while holding her hand. My friend sung along and made the impression of being the absolute happiest girl on the world in that moment. After Vic was done serenading her she walked down to the side of the stage were she was allowed to watch the show for a little longer until she got sent back into the crowd.

After Bulletproof Love was over they continued with Floral and Fading, which is one of my favorite songs off of ther new album, before they played Kissing In Cars, a song they once wrote for a wedding of a friend. It is an acoustic song and the whole venue calmed down for a few minutes while enjoying the soft sounds of the calm guitar.

The show then continued less calm, as the band went back to their rock songs, which made me literally sweat out all the sickness inside of me for a few moments. Pierce The Veil played five more songs before leaving the stage and coming back for the encore.

The encore, as usual, consited of their most popular songs King For A Day and Circles. The whole venue turned up again for the last few songs and confetti was flying all around the room, sticking to our sweaty bodies. After finishing the encore the band threw their guitar picks into the crowd of which I caught two after a security guy didn't listen to me but one other girl, when I asked for the drumstick laying right in front of me. I was upset the girl didn't mind literally taking it away from me but also happy for having gotten two guitar picks.

The show was absolutely amazing and mind blowing and I couldn't be happier to finally being able to say that I have seen another of my favorite bands live now. I can't wait to see them again at Rock am Ring this year. I went out of the venue totally satisfied, with new friends and a new unique concert experience I will forever be thankful for.
