My 18th Birthday with Lucius in Hamburg

Lucius is an American Indie Band consisting of  the five members Jess Wolfe, Holly Laessig, Dan Molad, Peter Lalish and Andrew Burri. They formed in 2005 and on Wednesday, the 20th of April 2016, they were in Hamburg and I got to celebrate my 18th birthday on the smallest concert I have ever been to.

A few months ago my friend Jule told me about the concert of Lucius on t he 20th of  April and asked me if I wanted to come with her. I told her that it's on my 18th birthday and that I would love to come with her, since I didn't have any plans anyways. So she got me a ticket for my birthday (is there anything better than getting concert tickets for your birthday?).

Lucius in Hamburg, 20th of April 2016 @Prinzenbar

Jule and I arrived at the venue about 45 minutes before the concert started. We weren't in a hurry and there was no line in front of the venue so we decided to sit down somewhere for a while, get some fries at the Vincent Vegan Food Truck down the street and go in a little bit later. Around 8:30pm we went in and I went to the toilet while Jule gave away her bag and jacket. We then went upstairs to where the concert was. I have never been in the Prinzenbar, so I was really curious what it would look like.

We went up and got in a really small venue with a capacity of 150 people. It had really high walls and old wall decorations. there was a small bar with a big mirror over it, so we were able to see ourselves. We got something to drink and went up to the stage, which was surprisingly really easy since there were only people between 18 and 50 instead of teenage girls. We went through the small venue and to the second row. The stage was really small and full of instruments, so I wondered how the band is gonna fit on there. It all made me feel really good. It felt more like I was about to get a private gig with some people instead of going to a concert.

We didn't really see anything of the support act because we went in so late, so we waited till 9:15pm when Lucius came on the stage. The two lead singers both had the exact same hair style and both wore an orange dress with a poncho kinda thing in the same Design over it. They started off with their song Madness and already then I knew that that concert would be completely different from what I have already experienced in my life.

The atmosphere was really familiar and everyone was just enjoying the concert either dancing, with their eyes closed or just fascinated by the band. The Band itself interacted a lot with the crowd and joked around alot. So when Dan wanted a beer he asked the crowd to buy him one. As no one did, he improvised a song about how much he wanted a beer to get someone to buy him one. I felt so welcome during the concert. The Band, and especially the lead singers, weren't afraid of being in touch with their fans and spread a good vibe. They talked with the crowd, went through the crowd and made everyone feel welcome and loved.

The lead singers filled the small room with their loud and unique voices and the emotion they put into singing their songs. The danced and laughed, they screamed and smiled. It was a pure wave of emotion crashing against me. I couldn't belive what I was seeing and experiencing.

After the gig we went downstairs and saw the two lead singers standing in front of the merchandise store with a beer in the hand, talking to fans, so we also went up to them and took a photo with them. They wished me a Happy Birthday and then we left.

All in all I gotta say that Lucius put on an amazing show and didn't forget about their fans at all. They were all down to earth and spread really good vibes through the room. I was more than just happy when I went outside the venue and the smallest concert I have ever been to will definitely be one I will never forget about!
